Preface

The 11th international conference on ferroelectric liquid crystals will be held in Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, from Sep. 3 to 8 in 2007, organized by Japanese Liquid Crystal Society, and jointly supported by Hokkaido University, the 21st century COE program, "Topological Science and Technology". Since the first FLCC in Arcachon (France) in 1987, various polar phases have been discovered, various new materials have been synthesized, and their physical properties and applications have been discussed. This field is still attractive and full of mysteries. Scientists who are interested in science and application of polarity, chirality and related topics are welcome to participate the conference.

The main purpose of the conference is of course to promote and exchange scientific understanding through the presentations and discussions by the participants. In addition to scientific sessions, however, you can also enjoy beautiful landscapes and good foods under comfortable climate in Sapporo through mutual friendship. Some of you may have enjoyed the last FLCC held in Tokyo (1993). We will organize the second FLCC in Japan, which may provide you another enjoyable experience. If you have never been in Japan, this must be a good chance for you. We cordially hope your participation to FLCC in Sapporo.
